Honolulu Dentist That Accepts FSA

Don’t Let Your Benefits Vanish: The "Use-It-or-Lose-It" Guide to Your FSA

Maximize Your Pre-Tax Dollars Before the Year Ends. As the year winds down, you might be looking at your pay stub and realizing you have a balance sitting in your Flexible Spending Account (FSA). You intelligently set aside pre-tax dollars to care for your health, but unlike an HSA, FSA funds often come with a strict deadline. If you don’t use it, you lose it. At Pacific Dental Studio, we don't want to see your hard-earned money go to waste. Using your FSA for essential, restorative, or preventative dental care is one of the smartest investments you can make. Whether you need to finish a treatment plan with Dr. Chien or are finally ready for restorative work with Dr. Fujii, we are here to help you maximize your benefits before they expire.

What Dental Services Are FSA Eligible?

The IRS allows FSA funds to be used for the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of a medical condition. Because oral health is critical to your overall health, almost all non-cosmetic dental procedures are eligible. Here is how you can put your expiring funds to work at our Ward Avenue office:

Restorative & Major Dental Work (High Value) This is the best way to use a large remaining FSA balance. These procedures restore function and health to your mouth.

  • Dental Implants: A specialty of our practice. Implants are a qualified medical expense.

  • Crowns & Bridges: Repairing damaged teeth or filling gaps.

  • Dentures: Full and partial dentures.

  • Root Canal Therapy: Saving a tooth from infection.

  • Fillings: Treating cavities before they grow larger.

Preventive & Diagnostic Care If you haven't used your benefits yet, catch up on your baseline health.

  • Comprehensive Exams & Cleanings

  • Digital X-rays & 3D Scans: High-tech diagnostics for precise treatment planning.

  • Periodontal (Gum) Checks

Orthodontics (Invisalign) Yes, Invisalign is FSA eligible! Because misaligned teeth can cause jaw pain, periodontal disease, and uneven wear, correcting your bite is considered a medical treatment. It’s a perfect way to use a significant portion of your FSA.

Surgical & Emergency Procedures

  • Extractions (including wisdom teeth)

  • Gum disease treatments (Periodontal maintenance)

  • Occlusal Guards (Night Guards) for teeth grinding

Note: Purely cosmetic procedures, such as professional teeth whitening, are generally not eligible under IRS rules.

The "Ohana" Benefit: Cover Your Whole Family

One of the most overlooked features of an FSA is its flexibility for families. Your FSA is a family asset. You can use the funds in your account to pay for qualified dental expenses for:

  • Yourself

  • Your spouse

  • Your eligible dependents

Even if your spouse or children are covered under a different insurance plan, you can still use your FSA funds to pay for their co-pays or treatments at our office. It’s a great way to ensure the whole family gets the care they need.

How to Use Your FSA at Pacific Dental Studio

We believe your visit should be focused on your smile, not on paperwork.

  1. Check Your Deadline: Most FSAs expire on December 31st, though some have a "grace period" into the new year. Check with your HR department to be sure.

  2. Bring Your Card: The easiest method is to bring your FSA debit card to your appointment. We process it just like a credit card.

Reimbursement: If you don't have a card, you can pay with a personal card (and earn your own points/miles!) and we will provide you with the detailed documentation you need to file a claim for reimbursement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I thought Invisalign was cosmetic. Are you sure it's covered? A: While Invisalign has cosmetic benefits, it is classified as an orthodontic treatment for malocclusion (misaligned bite). This makes it a medical expense and eligible for FSA usage.

Q: What happens if I don't spend the money by the deadline? A: In most standard FSA plans, the money is forfeited back to your employer. This is why we encourage patients to schedule their appointments in the fall or early winter—don't let that money disappear!

Q: What is the difference between FSA and HSA? A: An HSA (Health Savings Account) generally rolls over year-to-year. An FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is usually "use-it-or-lose-it" at the end of the calendar year. We accept both at Pacific Dental Studio.
