Rebranding
Located in the First Insurance Center in the heart of Honolulu, our many loyal and long-term patients have known us as Hawaii Prosthodontics. Hawaii Prosthodontics was founded nearly 40 years ago by prosthodontist, Richard Courson, D.D.S. Both he and his partner, Duane Fujii, D.D.S., were prosthodontists and together they provided top-notch, quality dental care with a focus on dental prosthetics (dentures, crowns, bridges and implants). Dr. Courson retired in 2019 and Dr. Natalie Chien joined Dr. Fujii as the first general dentist at the dental practice.
Delivering Quality Dental Care
With Dr. Fujii's desires to step away from managing the business operations, to focus more on delivering quality dental care and to spend more time with his family, he and Dr. Natalie structured their partnership to fulfill both their goals. Dr. Natalie was the person Dr. Fujii had chosen to take over the dental practice so he could continue working with and for his patients without the burdens of running a business. Dr. Natalie sought to take on more responsibility, develop skill sets beyond chair-side care and still seeks to expand her knowledge inside and out of dentistry. As of August 1, 2022, that transition became a reality and Dr. Natalie Chien became the new owner of Hawaii Prosthodontics.
However, as a general dentist, Dr. Natalie Chien wanted the practice to reflect this change, particularly to reflect the broad scope of dental services offered at Hawaii Prosthodontics. Thus, Hawaii Prosthodontics has rebranded under the name Pacific Dental Studio. At Pacific Dental Studio, the mission remains the same: to provide personal, professional quality care for the whole family.
Our Staff
With all our existing staff on board, we remain a team and remain dedicated to improving and maintaining the oral health of our patients. We wish to maintain our relationships with other dental specialists and utilize specialty referrals as needed, however we offer our patients a wide range of services under one roof: from restorative and cosmetic dentistry, emergency dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery in addition to specialty prosthodontics care.
It is our goal to be the dental home for whole families, create positive experiences and health outcomes through the delivery of comprehensive and premium care. Pacific Dental Studio looks forward to greeting our long-standing and loyal patients under the new name. We have expanded our hours and services to help accommodate patients of all ages and to welcome new patients to join our dental home.
Our Dentists
Natalie Chien, D.D.S.
General Dentist
Dr. Natalie Chien grew up in Torrance, California, received her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Chien came to Hawaii for advanced education and training at the Queen’s Medical Center General Practice Residency Program in Honolulu. There she gained experience working with special needs and medically complex patients both in and out of the operating room, treating dental emergencies, and collaborating with dental specialists and medical physicians to help provide multidisciplinary care. Since completing her residency program in 2016, Dr. Chien gained experience working in both private practice in Honolulu and at the hospital dental clinic. She maintains her hospital privileges and currently remains on staff as an attending dentist and educator at the QMC GPR program.
Dr. Chien believes in providing conservative, preventative and quality dentistry and strives to create positive dental experiences for her patients. Her passion for dentistry stems from desires to give back to her community through service and education. When she is not working, volunteering or taking continuing education classes she enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors and with her family.
Duane Fujii, D.D.S.
Prosthodontist
Dr. Duane Fujii was born and raised on Oahu. He graduated from Damien Memorial High School in 1974, received a B.S. in Biology at the University of San Francisco in 1978, received a D.D.S. at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland (First Dental School in the world) in 1984, and received his Certificate in Prosthodontics in 1987. Dr. Fujii has been in private practice at 1100 Ward Avenue, Suite 820, in Honolulu ever since. With over 35 years of experience as a dentist and specialist, Dr. Fujii offers a level of premium care to his patients. As a certified prosthodontist, Dr. Fujii specializes in repairing and replacing teeth with crowns, bridges, implants and dentures. Dr. Fujii has built long-standing friendships with many of his patients throughout his tenure as partner and former owner of the dental practice.
